Sophie and Hazel, numéro 1

"Um...is there any easier way?" I ask. I could fall. I could die. One slip and I'd plummet to my death. I'm not ready to die. Oh shit.

Victoria
"For fuck sake, Joe, just jump." I called to him, sighing. "Either get eaten by that Michelle or jump, which has more chance of you surviving? Probably the latter so fucking jump!"

The door to the roof banged against the adjoining wall. I turned to see Michelle shuffling towards me, still with the knife sticking out of her chest. I breath deeply for a second and stepped back to take a run up. I picked up speed and suddenly there was no ground beneath my feet. Miraculously, I made the jump and reached the building, colliding with Victoria. We fell to the ground with me on top of her. "Holy shit. I made it".

Victoria
"Good, now get the fuck off me. Or I will make you an easy meal for one hungry zombie." I growled, "Though, poor zombie might not have much to eat with your intelligence" I added in a mutter, just loud enough to be heard.

"Hey, I bet I'm way smarter than you. Have you graduated college?" I ask. My intelligence is all I have.

Victoria
"Not yet" I replied, standing up and brushing myself down once he was off me. "Now c'mon, I wanted to get home hours ago" I said, looking around.

"Alright, follow me", I say. I lead her to a similar stairwell to the one on the mall roof and start the decent. So many stairs. My breath was now coming in short gasps. Too much exercise for one day.

Victoria
I glanced at Johann, and shook my head, completely unfazed with the amount of exercise we were doing. "Do you need carrying?" I asked, watching him as he walked. This was not akin to the length of my runs in the evenings, which I was really looking forward to when this shit was over.

"I'm not a frickin' child. I can look after myself." Why is she not out of breath.

Victoria
"Yet that zombie will probably have eaten you" I noticed, going down the steps two at a time. "We should hurry up" I noticed.

Victoria
I am so glad to be home, even if it was with an annoying guy. I pushed open the door, and walked inside. "Dad?"

Wow, big house, I muse. So far we hadn't come into any trouble. By trouble I mean zombies. I felt awkward being in a girls house. Especially if her father was here.

Victoria
The thought of placing him in a room and going to find dad crossed my mind more than once, because he was still as annoying as before. I pushed my fringe out of my face, walking around the house trying to find dad, but he was novwhere to be seen.

Victoria seemed to be getting more worried by the second. I had a feeling her dad wouldn't be there. Ni matter how hard she searched. "Maybe he went to the wedding early", I suggest.

Victoria
"He wouldn't leave without the flowers" Which after being in my bag were probably crushed. I sighed, "Let's hope that is where he is" I said.

Yeah, lets hope. "Sooo...what now?", I ask. If her dads not here what are we supposed to do. "We need to get somewhere safe", I spot a tv in the corner of the living room and head towards it.

Victoria
"No. I am going to find dad. Stay here if you want, but you won't be able to stay in the house. The shed is very open" I grumbled, going to my room and rummaging in the drawers for my gun. I shut Johann out of my room as I got changed into a dark pair of jeans and a 'I love Zombies' tshirt. A joke, really. An obnoxious one, but who gives a fuck. I placed the gun in the back of the waist band of my jeans, hidden but easy to access. I opened the door again, "Coming or staying in the shed?"

While victoria got dressed I turned the tv on to the news. A reporter stood in front of a green screen with a picture of a deserted street on it. "A tragic event has occurred today", she said. "The streets are either in chaos or completely deserted. It seems that an incurable disease has begun to speed throughout the city. Some people are calling it a plague. Others are calling it an act of God. We have yet to learn where it originated or how to find a cure. Scientists are baffled. However action has been taken. We have invited a specialist to speak of this action. Judy Barnes." The screen shot to a live feed of a small village. People where mulling around, frantically searching for something. Or someone. "Thanks, Kate. We have discovered a way to slow the speed of the disease and protect those who haven't yet caught it. We have set up quarantined sections of major cities. We advise that you travel to the nearest quarantined section as soon as possible. It may be the only way to stay safe until further action can occur." An image of the world came on to the screen. Sections of it were highlighted in green. "The highlighted areas are the quarantined sectioned. We severely advise you immediately make your way to the nearest section. Before its too late."

Victoria
I managed to catch the last part of the news report "We're not that far from one of them" I replied, pointing at the screen. "We should get Dad then head there" I advised, leaning on the door frame leading into the living room. So what we saw at the shopping centre wasn't just a one off?

"What if he already left?" I ask. "He could have panicked." If she wasn't going to be pessimistic someone had to be.

Victoria
"He wouldn't" I spat at him, "He wouldn't go anywhere without telling me, I've had my phone on the whole time" What if he had gone? But what if the zombies had beaten him to the safe place?

I shake my head slightly and look at the screen. She's starting to intimidate me. I watch as all the people wander around on the screen. A tall man in particular caught my eye. He was pushing through the crowd and furiously searching for someone. "Have you seen Victoria? Has anyone seen Victoria?" he was asking.

Victoria
I glanced up at the familiarity of the voice on tv. I walked over to the screen, just to make sure it was my dad. It was. This means we will have to do what Johann suggested, we need to get some where safe. But first, we need to get some more weapons, I would much prefer him not to be using one of my best knives. "We need to get some more means of self-defence" I noticed, poking the off button on the tv, and whipping around to face Johann.

"How many more knives do you have?" i ask. "Wait, hold on. The question I should be asking, is that legal?" I raise my eyebrows at her. It better not get us in jail.
