Sophie and Hazel, numéro 1

I sighed lightly, and let go of the steering wheel so I could grab his legs and in attempt pull him back in the car. "Next time, you drive, I shoot." I said.

I flop back into the car seat and look over to Victoria. "At least I passed my test", I mutter. "Aaand, since I just got shot, shot a load of diseased people who are trying to kill us and almost fell out of a moving vehicle, I [i]think[i/] I get to pick the music."

Victoria
"Don't dig for pity, it just makes you seem weaker than you are" I shook my head and put ny hands on the wheel again. We were nearing the safe area, I could tell. "No music for now" People were joining the painful exodus, as our car was brought to aa stop because of the mass of people. I gazed around them all; Sad, weary women, their children stumbling and strwaked with tears, their men bitter and angry. The rich rubbing shoulders with beggars and outcasts, you could hear the whines and snarls of dogs wandering around aimlessly. Here and there were wounded soldiers, bitten and injured from fights with zombies, as helpless as the rest. I hated this, the roads packed with people carrying bundles and boxes. There was hardly a chance all these people would fit in this tiny quarantined part of the city, but.we could at least try.

I gaze around at all the people. "Shame", I mutter to myself. All it took was an apocalypse to get the rich and poor together. Having the same mind sets.

Victoria
"C'mon, I think it will be easier to get inside if we walk, running over zombies is one thing, over humans is another" I said, checking if there was a way to turn off the engine. Why doesn't anyone teach how to turn things off?

"Take the wires apart", I mention before climbing out of the car. I wonder if my family was safe. Id been so caught up in everything i hadn't really had time to think about it.

Dad died a few months ago, and for those few months; I have been alone. Not that I care really, as soon as Johann and I got here we went our separate ways to find our own families. Sometimes I wonder how he was doing but then I realise; I don't care. People were dying left right and centre- rations were ruining out and the disease was starting to seep through the walls os suppossed 'safety'.

After all these months at the quarantine I still hadn't found my family. I had reason to believe that they were dead but some part of me was still searching. However, every day the search was getting smaller and smaller as more and more people became ill. As provisions ran out the acting government was recruiting all able bodies to collect supplies from the outside. And, yes, they were making me go.

Victoria
I didn't mind the fact there were only a small amount of people here, it did make it slightly safer for us, but it was a bit boring. I decided, since I had nothing else to do, to help go collect supplies. I tied my hair into a loose ponytail, hiding my gun in the back of my jeans and placing a jacket over myself so the edges covered any trace of the gun. I just hoped they weren't stereotypical about girls not being 'able' to help- because I don't want to waste my bullets.

I store in line with the other recruits. The leader was currently scrutinising me. I heard him say, "So this is what they send us, is it? Something scrawny something something shit". Let me point out that I had zoned out by now. I stood my ground though and bent down to pick up my hat. He had just knocked it off my head saying that it was a "feminine hat". His words not mine.

Victoria
I recognised one guy instantly, and I was glad in a way that he was still alive. And deciding that it would be nice to have at least some annoying company, I walked over to his side and smirked slightly. "You do know that hats belong on your head" I sneered, standing in line and looking straight ahead rather than at Johann.

I pop the top of the hat back in place, put it on my head and roll my shoulders. "You know that guns are dangerous and not the same shape as a human". I say in the same tone.

Victoria
My smirk grew slightly at his comment, "Exactly the reason I keep one" I muttered. "Now, Johann, I have to admit I am mildly surprised at how alive you are" I said, watching at him through the corner of my eye.

"I'm resourceful when I want to be", I mutter. I was reluctant to discuss what had happened. The troop leader motioned for us to walk forward. I waited for all of the other men to advance slightly before turning to Victoria. "Shall we?" I ask.

Victoria
"Mm, I suppose we have to" I replied, before setting off walking. "No shooting yourself this time though" I grinned at him, "How is the foot now?" I asked, kicking a stone along just in front of me.

"Fine", I say casually. "Do have a nasty scar though", I whisper as though it was a secret. I look at her face properly, "How have you been?" I ask, curiously.

Victoria
"Alone- mostly, but coping. Nice to see an old face, even if it is the face of an idiot" I teased, shoving my hands into my pockets.

"Good to see you too", I mutter just loud enough to hear. I quicken my step as the leader shouts from up front. "Talk about a God Complex", I say to Victoria.

Victoria
I hummed in agreement, "Probably don't want us to get infected. That would be one hell of a mess up- remember what happened last break out" I said, that was when my dad died. Shot himself once he figured out he was turning. Better dead than a zombie.

A flash of images soars through my head but I shake my head slightly and try to think of something else. "Hmmm", I manage to mumble. "How's you dad?" I ask trying to change the subject.

Victoria
"Dead" I replied simply, knowing he would change the subject, I don't want to explain how I watched Dad shoot himself. I continued kicking the rock, but soon getting bored of it, I kicked it hard enough for it to skid onto the road.

I found myself trying to look everywhere but her. "I'm...sorry", I say and make myself look at Victorias face. "I didn't know", I look at my feet.

Victoria
I shrugged slightly, it isn't a big deal. Being dead is better than here. "So what are we actually doing on this trip out- I wasn't paying attention" I asked.

"Um...I vaguely recall him saying that we were going to the nearest mall for supplies and shit". I nudge her with my elbow, "another chance for shop lifting, eh?"

(Right okay this story is scaring me. Remember the Barbie doll story? Similar plot to that but worse, and the ending has made me cry. Damnit.)

I grinned at him, "I am almost out of bullets" I noticed, pulling out the small pack I had in my jacket pocket. "Though no being a chicken this time" I added, "It was such a tiny jump"
