Sophie and Hazel, numéro 1

I start to climb down the tree. "You sound as though you've done this before", I say as I take the final leap onto the springy ground. "Where's the best place?" I ask.

Victoria
"I was in the Scouts. My dad believed in diversity in what I learnt" I replied, following him out of the tree. "Somewhere soft, we don't have blankets or anything" I noticed, looking around. I don't jump like he did, I lower myself slowly, disliking climbing.

"Lead the way", I straighten up and give her an army salute. While her dad sent her to the Scouts my parents sent me to math camp. But she doesn't need to know that and neither does anybody else. My nerdy days are almost over.

Victoria
I nod slightly and look around for a little before having an idea. I start picking fresh bracken and walking to the tree we climbed. I placed the bracken onto the floor, creating a small mattress. I gathered some moss to make some sort of pillow. "Voila, bed"

"Shouldn't we build, like, a shelter or something?", I ask. Id never had any experience with the wilderness. To be honest I was really an inside person.

Victoria
"Um, probably, do note I only attended two Scout meetings. They kicked me out for setting the climbing wall on fire" I replied, gathering up long sticks.

"More than I ever did", I mutter and start to collect some branches. "And may I ask why you set fire to a climbing wall?"

Victoria
"I merely slipped" I replied but flashed him a grin. I rested the sticks on a lower branch.

I return her smile. "Sure you did", I mutter. "Any other "slips" I should know about", I ask.

Victoria
"Chemoistry lab at Barnsley" I replied without hesitation. "Whole science block exploded"

I laugh slightly. "Any chance that I'm gonna find out how that happened?" I ask. "I mean a whole school block doesn't just blow up all by itself".

Victoria
"We were doing the potassium with water experiment, and I did it too close to a towel which slowly set fire to the chemistry classroom. The fire spread into the store cupboard. Only one guy was hurt. Which is fine because I didn't like him anyway" I replied continuing the work.

"What a positive view on life you have", I joke. As I put the last piece on the shelter I turn to Victoria. "Ladies first", I say and motion to the "bed".

Victoria
"Mhm." I clambered into the bed. "People will talk" I said, laying down on the left hand side. "Now how much have you screwed up in your life?" I asked.

"Lets see", I think out loud. "Well from the very beginning, when I was born I almost killed my mum. I have literally done nothing with my life. At least nothing of value. I went to a University that I hated just to please my parents, cause they wouldn't approve of painting. I stuck with a job where my boss bullied me because I couldn't just quit. And finally, I haven't set out to find my family even when I had ages", I finish with a sigh.

Victoria
"Oh wow that is depressing" I noticed, pulling a leaf off a piece of bracken and fiddled with it.

I settle back onto the makeshift bed next to Victoria. "On a more positive note. Tell me something good about yourself".

Victoria
I prop myself up onto my elbow, so I was looking at Johann. "Erm. How do you mean 'good'? Good things I have done; that list is very short. Or things I am good at?" I asked.

"Well how 'bout we make that list longer and say both", I suggest. I mimic her movements and look into her eyes. "All of it".

Victoria
"Well, good things I have done includes helping a stray puppy. Dad didn't let me keep it. And I am very good at setting things on fire, not always purposely" I replied, smiling lightly at him.

"Sounds interesting", I say. "I'm allergic to nearly all animals so wouldn't even be able to keep a puppy".

I yawned widely; nodding slightly "We should get some sleep" I said, trying to settle down on the bed. But it was cold, and I hate the cold, so I shuffled closer to Johann. Body heat, first rule in the book (Thanks Ben). "Hey, Joe..." I say, my voice quiet and becoming thucker because of tiredness. "Don't change" I add, but realise that sounded almost affectionate. "I mean, don't you fucking dare change into a zombie. I bloody well don't want to shoot you" From a bite, it takes mere hours for you to become ine of them. A small scratch like the one on Joe takes at least a day. I just hope for the love of God- it isn't a zombie scratch. I don't want to lose Johann. Not now. Not ever.

I cautiously wrap my arms around her. "I promise I wont change into a zombie", I whisper. I cuddle closer to Victoria, happy about the warmth.

Victoria
I took a small breath and rested my head against him, closing my eyes. "You better not or I am not responsible for what happens next" I replied.

I look down at Victoria and smile. "Then the responsibility is all mine", I mutter. "And lets not forget, with responsibility comes great...power? Hold on that's not right".
