Sophie and Hazel, numéro 1

Victoria
"I think we have to" It seems the group aren't particularly paying attention to the two new people tagging along which suited me best.

I hum an agreement and shuffle to Victoria's side. I sigh lightly, "things are about to get awkward", I motion towards my mum. I start walking, hoping Victoria would follow.

Victoria
I keep close to his side as we walked, quickly stealing a glance at Johann, "She doesn't have to know if you don't want her to" , I noticed.

I smile slightly. "If I know my mother well enough, and I think I do", I say. "She already knows", I look at my mum at the front of the group. "She's very perceptive like that".

Victoria
"Let's let her mention it first" I replied, following Johann's gaze to the front of the group of people.

"Mm", I hum in agreement. "At least she hasn't started asking inappropriate questions".

Victoria
I groaned slightly at that, "I hope she doesn't start all. That'll be just horrible" I noticed.

I laugh slightly, "I wouldn't worry". I smile down at her, "just try to make it sound like your on the same side".

Victoria
"And which side would that be?" I asked, smiling back up at Johann.

I consider that for a moment. "I want to say the winning side, but I haven't seen my mother in a while so...Mmm, the side that doesn't want to kill her or me would do".

Victoria
"Considering the amount if times I've saved your arse I think it would be retarded to kill you" I replied, winking at and squeezing his hand.

Victoria
I had to separate from Johann to go collect some fire wood. Since we are larger group now, relying on body warmth from another person won't help. I had a few pieces of kindling under my arm when the tremors started. I dropped to the floor quickly- that's what they say to do on survival programs anyway- protecting my head. The tremors kept increasing until it was a full on earthquake. The ground felt like it was splitting underneath me, and as soon as the quake stopped, I grabbed my wood and began to head back to camp. Only to notice a problem. "Joe!" I shouted, a huge crack, too far to jump, had ripped its way through where the camp was supposed to have been. It spread across for what looked like miles either side, and I just hoped to God Johann was on the same side as me. "Joey?!"

"Victoria", I shout across the void. I cling onto the edge with my elbows and push myself up. The crack had opened up beside me as I say with the others. I finally pull myself back onto the ground and notice that the Smiths had gone. Which could only mean my mum was gone too. "Oh god", I mutter to myself. I look over to the other side of the crack and shout, "Victoria".

Victoria
"Joe, what do we do?" I shouted back, beginning to panic. Ha look at this, my past self would be cringing at how terrified I was. But I knew I would be lost without Johann I couldn't lose him now. I spot a figure on the other side of the crack, who I presume is Johann and I walk so I was in line with him.

I stand up and turn myself so I was looking straight at Victoria. "I suppose we should start walking until we find the end of the crack", I shout. I look down into the depth of the void, and shout in a smaller voice, "Victoria, my mothers dead". The way I said it it was almost like a question.

Victoria
I looked into the crack, and sighed, "Oh Joe, I'm sorry" I replied, hating how it sounds being shouted, but there was no other way for him to hear.

I don't respond for a while as there was nothing to say. I just looked down in silent mourning. "Which direction do we go in?", I ask, trying to hide the tears.

(Awh just hug the poor guy Damnit hole)
Victoria
I watch Johann while he's silent, sighing to myself. What has he done to deserve sny of this? I believe in God, I do, but I don't understand why he won't just let Johann have some happiness? Instead of making him stick around me, I will do anything to make Johann's life happier- yes, that shall be the vow I make myself. Make Johann happy no matter what the cost. "Right, your left, is always good"

I nod but then realise that she could see me very well and shout, "okay". I start to walk to my left and grab my bag that had somehow survived the earthquake.

Victoria
I sighed again, and walked to the right, hoping the walk isn't too far. I had become accustomed with another person walking at my side.

A quiet whimper rang out, just inside the crack. A ledge had prevented a puppy from falling to its death, but the small puppy was now alone as it tried calling for its mother, who had fell into the hole. The puppy was trapped, and didn't have the energy left to try and escape, so barked and whimpered louder when it heard the sound of approaching footsteps. Even though the puppy's ears were flat against its head, terrified of the new pattern of footsteps that are so different to its mother's, the pure hope of being saved made it bark again.

I walk along looking at my feet, while kicking a pebble. A quiet whimpering brings me out of my own thoughts. I head over to noise and move a few rocks. On the ledge I see a small puppy so I reach out my hands and try to coax it out.

The puppy approached the hands slowly, sniffing them, nudging its nose into the fingers. The hands may not belong to its mother, but they definitely didn't smell like a threat.
