Sophie and Hazel, numéro 1

"It'll be fine", I say reassuringly. I hold the puppy in my left arm and reach out my right to stroke her hair. "Are you okay?" I ask in a softer tone.

Victoria
Sincerely, I smiled softly at him and nodded. "Are you okay is more of the question" I notice, my gaze flickering over his face, taking in the details.

I smile slightly. "I'm fine", I say honestly. I look up towards the sky, "Its getting kinda late. Should we set up camp?"

Victoria
I nodded lightly, going into my bag and pulling out an apple, chewing carefully I pointed at the puppy  "Okay but that mongrel is not sleeping with us"

"Hes not sleeping outside", I say. I start to assemble the tent. "Ill make him a bed if necessary".

Victoria
"But God knows where it's been, it could have flees or something" I replied, watching Johann as e set up the tent. I still hadn't got the basics of putting up tents sorted yet, I doubt I will ever be able to build one properly.

I sigh lightly and look at Bolt, who was lying asleep on the floor. "He could die outside", I say sadly.

Victoria
I sighed, glancing at the puppy then Johann. "Fine" I shook my head slightly, not sure why I was agreeing to this.

I put the finished touches to the tent and walk over to Victoria. I place my hands just below her cheeks. "Thank you", I say and kiss her lightly.

Victoria
I smiled at him, kissing him back, before taking a small step back and brushing any hair from my face. "Hungry?"

"Starving", I say with a smile. I glance down at Bolt and raise my eyebrows at Victoria in silent question. We would have to spare some food for him and I wasn't sure how she would react.

Victoria
My gaze followed Johann's to the puppy and I sighed. I threw my apple core away before starting to stoke up a fire, we might as well have warm food for once. I looked in my bag before pulling out the ingredients I needed, making sure none were poisonous to dogs. I'll let Joe have this one little thing, it might come in use one day.

I smile and jump slightly on the balls of my feet. I walk over to Bolt and sit down on the floor next to him, cross-legged.

Victoria
I watched Johann with a small fond smile before preparing the meal. It doesn't take long for the food to be cooked (i have no idea what it could be), so I plated up Johann's and mine then found a large leaf for the puppy. I put the puppy's food on the leaf and placed it next to it, before sitting next to Johann, passing him his.

I take the plate gratefully and mumble a thanks. I smile up at her.

I stoked a fire, and settled down beside it, warming up my hands. I felt a movement at my side and glanced down towards it, then pushed the puppy away from me sharply. I disliked that puppy so much, I don't understand why we have to keep it.

While Victoria started the fire I went into the woods to gather fire wood. Once I had an armful I headed back to camp, where I'd put the tent up earlier.

Victoria
While Johann was gone, I picked up the puppy and held it up so it was dangling in front of me. I turned it from side to side to observe how it looked. "I don't see why you appeal to people. You're just a big rat." I said, then the puppy leaned forward and nipped my nose. "Oh you fucking piece of shit..."

I start to jog back as I hear Victoria swearing. I reach the fire and drop the wood beside it. "What happened?", I ask, breathless.

Victoria
"It's a danger" I dropped the puppy and pulled my gun out, pointing it directly at the pup. "It's just going to eat our food, take our shelter then just give us diseases to thank us." I cocked the gun.

(Over react much)

Instinctively, I jump in front of Bolt and hold out my hands towards Victoria. "Vicky", I say firmly. "Put the gun down".

Victoria
"Joey" I copied his tone, "First; move the fuck out of my way. Second; call me Vicky and I will shoot both of you with one bullet. Now, you piece of shit, shift." I flicked my gun in gesture to make him move.

I straighten up an place my hands on my hips. "No", I say. "I will not move. I will not let an innocent life be slaughtered just because of the simple fact that he exists".

Victoria
"I am finding you a good target at this moment simply because you are exsisting on the wrong patch of ground." I moved my gun down to gesture at his feet, then flicked it up again. However, I misjudged the strength of the sudden jolt upwards, and instinctively, my finger tightened on the trigger. This, obviously, fired the gun, making contact with Johann before I could react otherwise.

My breath catches in my throat at the realisation that she had shot me. I take a shaky breath before collapsing on the ground as the pain hit me. My head drops like a lead weight and a silent tear rolls down my cheek. The pain was unbearable, and so the last thing that I saw was a starry sky before everything went dark.
